made it out the morning of the 3rd, seen quite a few deer, passed on all of the 6 bucks i seen, one being a wide 3 point.
he had a weird rack, laying flat out with just the tips of his points curling upwards, ah too soon to settle right

a bud and i went out on a ranch he's been doing some work on, first light a seen a nice 4x4( 8 point) white tail, about the size i took last year, i passed on him so after nothing else showed we drove around to do some glassing, seen two buck in a draw, easy stalk if i wanted, one a wide 4x3 and a smaller but heavier 4x4, i passed.
later i spotted a very tall but narrow 4x4 and some smaller bucks, i almost pulled the trigger on this one, but the buck really needs two more years to mature, i know this isnt my land, and who knows if i will ever get another chance to hunt it, but still i passed.
we went way up on top of the mountain, and i seen movement in the trees, so i told my bud to stop, we got out and what a show we watched, a bull elk with close to 20-25 cows, man the rut was on ( if you get my drift) and he was raking and busting off 3 inch pine trees like they wernt nothing. too bad neither of us had a elk tag however it was awesome to watch it all, then we headed back down to hunt the creek bottom for the evening hunt, seen that 4x4 again along with two does and two fawns, so no i didnt squeeze off, but i have to say, it was a hunt to remember , and a great time shared with a close and ailing buddy.

im no expert, but i judged (and i was 25 yards from him) that bull elk to be a 360-370 class bull...wow what a bruiser

just returned from michigan, spent nearly a week there hunting and visiting family, deer movement seemed to be at night for we seen very little durring the daylight hours, but scads in the headlights on our way back home. weird them being that way for the opening week, my buddy said he hasnt pressured them very much durring bow season either.

the only bucks we seen was a very nive 8 ( in the headlights) and a 7 i found dead and very smelly i might add

oh well thats hunting, still had a blast and look forward to doing it again someday, well back to pheasants for a week or so, then back to work for a week, them im off to hunt exotics in colorado.... :D
